In these difficult times of Covid-19, fashion designers have managed to adapt and offer us digital fashion shows for the summer season of 2021, to change us from mundane everyday life. With the end of the winter season, this summer’s collections are colorful, vintage, with fluid materials and a nineties trend brought up to date.
Let’s check out some of the trendiest summer fashion vintage trends for 2021!
A real trend this season, balloon sleeves are everywhere! On tops, dresses, shirts! They give a structured effect to the silhouette with sometimes XXL sleeves; many shows have put this trend back on the catwalks (Isabel Marant, Ralph & Russo). The ready-to-wear brands are no exception, Mango, Zara, Nasty gal, etc. you can find some models selected for you!
For the record, the balloon sleeves also called mutton sleeves were created in 1836, to accentuate the waist of women, and make them even thinner, cushions placed inside the sleeves will also be necessary to maintain the volume of the ladies. The leg sleeves were puffed up to the middle of the arm. Often decorated with satin they could reach up to 1mm in diameter.
How to wear it?
To wear balloon sleeves, avoid the volume at the bottom so as not to accentuate the volume too much, ideally with straight pants or skinny jeans or a skirt close to the body.
This season, we find the blazer everywhere! On the catwalks it was the flagship piece, for the summer we mainly focus on pink and pastel shades. The cuts are worked, most often with a masculine build and cross buttons. The jacket/skirt sets are ideal for the summer season, you can easily accessorize the outfit with heeled sandals or a pair of sneakers for the city touch.
The ready-to-wear brands focus on flashy and pastel colors.
How to wear it?
The blazer is a wardrobe staple, for this summer pastel or flashy colors are perfect for sunny days. You can bet on a masculine/feminine look with an oversized jacket and a very feminine dress. You can also make color associations or color block looks. For work, a nice blazer and skirt set with a white shirt.
The Peter Pan collar was born in the 1900s, Claudine is a heroine of the semi-autobiographical novels of the French writer Colette, in 1900 she released Claudine’s first novel at school in which the little girl wears a dress with a rounded collar white which gives her the look of a model girl. It was in the 1950s that the collar became very trendy.
For this 2021 season, the collar is meant to be maxi, it can be found on blouses and dresses with a vintage trend for prints, tartan, checks and embroidery. In the ready-to-wear, the Peter Pan collar or maxi collar is in all the summer collections.
How to wear it?
The maxi or Peter Pan collar gives a look of a wise girl, you can wear this kind of collar with wide pants for a sixties silhouette, if you wear it with a skirt, beware of the too strict silhouette. We don’t hesitate to add color to modernize the look.
Since the fall/winter 2020-2021 collections, metallic has returned to the front of the catwalks, we obviously find metallic at Paco Rabanne, and for the summer season, colorful metallic at Isabel Marant. A big inspiration straight from the 80s and which can be worn more easily for an evening than a daytime look but it remains an easy trend to adopt with a little touch like a pair of sandals or a bag!
How to wear it?
The metallic can be worn with a little touch thanks to accessories such as a pair of heels or a strong piece such as metallic pants with a plain T-shirt or a blazer pants set for a wedding or an evening.
The patchwork has existed since the creation of sewing, this assembly of fabrics was used in Egypt, Greece, the Near East, ancient Rome, in Europe the technique is used from the Middle Ages, the clothes of the Crusaders were quilted and the harlequin clothes were in assembled pieces.
For this 2021 season, patchwork is back in color and the pieces are often denim in the ready-to-wear. This trend reminds us of the 70s and the hippie era.
How to wear it?
You can do a total look in jeans or bet on a strong piece for a trendy look, ideal with flared jeans for a 70s silhouette
